I hope that you and your families had a relaxing and festive break and a wonderful New Year’s celebration together.  With the start of 2024, I’m reminded first that life is short, and that tomorrow is not promised to any of us.  Our Austin SHRM community lost a Board member over the holiday break, and though we are still grieving her loss, I think about the charge she was leading and how much of an impact she had on our community – she was a beacon of light. 

That brings me to my theme for this year, which is “Leading with Purpose!”  As we think about how we spend our time, and where we spend it, how are you leading with purpose and what’s your call to action?  For me personally, leading with purpose is intentional, it means you are committed to nurturing growth, and living a purpose driven life – it starts with YOU.  Whether you are new to the HR field or a seasoned professional outside of HR, there is power in leading with purpose. 

As we look ahead to the coming months, I encourage each of you to join Austin SHRM in taking on the charge of purposeful leadership.  That you contribute to our committees and expand your professional network; there’s so much value through knowledge sharing, and with each of us, we can soar to new heights of success - together. 

The 2024 theme, "Leading with Purpose," is more than a motto; it's a commitment to infuse every decision, initiative, and interaction with intention – again, it starts with you.  As this year’s President of Austin SHRM, you have my commitment and continued support in encouraging all of us to live a life of Love, Leadership and Legacy.
