2027–2028 Open Board Roles

The President, President-Elect, and Past President serve consecutive one-year terms. All other Board members serve two-year terms.

Most Board roles average 5–10 hours per month, allowing volunteers to make a meaningful impact while balancing their professional and personal commitments. Some roles have busier periods throughout the year. For example, Conference leadership roles require additional time as the annual conference approaches.

How to Apply

Ready to take the next step? Complete the Board Interest Form by Friday, September 4, 2026 to be considered for one of our open leadership opportunities. The form includes application instructions and everything you need to get started.

1. Interested candidates must complete and submit the Board Interest Form by Friday, September 4, 2026.
2. A Selection Committee comprised of current Austin SHRM Board members will contact and interview candidates during the week of September 7, 2026.
3. The Selection Committee will present its recommendations to the Austin SHRM Board for review and approval.
4. The 2027 Proposed Slate of Officers will be presented to active Austin SHRM members in September 2026.
5. Voting on the 2027 Proposed Slate of Officers will take place during the October monthly meeting.
6. The approved officers will be inducted during the December 2026 monthly meeting.

Austin SHRM Board Expectations

As a member of the Austin SHRM Board of Directors, you agree to:

• Attend monthly Board meetings, typically held on the third Tuesday from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Board members may not miss more than two Board meetings per calendar year.
• Maintain active Austin SHRM and SHRM membership throughout your term.
• Attend Austin SHRM programs and events as your role requires.
• Submit monthly committee reports and manage your assigned budget responsibly.
• Uphold Austin SHRM's Bylaws, Statement of Ethics, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding Board discussions, chapter information, and membership data.
• Fulfill the duties outlined in your individual Board position description.
• Serve as a positive ambassador for Austin SHRM and the HR profession.
